Avoiding a divisive court proceeding while protecting personal and family interests in a potential divorce will be the focus of an upcoming seminar at Lonestar College鈥擶illowchase. The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 8, from 9 a.m.-noon, and is sponsored by Northwest Houston Collaborative Family Law Professionals (NHCFLP).

NHCFLP promotes and facilitates settlement based solutions for divorce, family and domestic legal matters. Members are trained in the collaborative process, which seeks to minimize damage to existing relationships and encourage dispute resolution without the intervention of an adversarial court proceeding.

Along with collaborative attorneys, presenters at the workshop will include mental health and financial professionals, both of whom can act as neutral parties in the negotiation process.

Topics covered will include explanation of the divorce process from beginning to end, information on child custody and child support issues, ideas for protection of assets, an overview of the collaborative law process, financial planning during and after the divorce, as well as strategies for dealing with a difficult spouse and helping the family to cope.

Lonestar College鈥擶illowchase is located at 9949 Grant Road, near SH 249. The cost of the seminar is $25. Registration information is available by calling 281-583-7529 or 281-469-2922. Further information about NHFLP is available on their website: www.civildivorce.org.
